RE: Ants have taken over

Thanks-
That is good to know. I would hate to have to put something that could end up in my kids or some animals mouths for no reason.

RE: How to go from Eagle, CO (I-70) to Albuquerque?

285 has minimal grades, but is not always that pretty. Careful if you go from Lake City to Creede. Slumgullion pass is 9-11%! Going from Ridgeway to Cortez is beautiful.

RE: Ants have taken over

I live in Colorado and while we have ants, I have never seen an ant in our unit in 3 years. Is this an east/west difference? Altitude difference? The reason I am asking is we are going to Maryland for a week. Will I need to do something different out there that I don't do here? Our biggest issue is flies, mosquitos, and gnats being attracted to the interior lights at night and comming in.

RE: Gas Stations open on Christmas

We have traveled a lot on Holidays and have found that any town big enough to have a pay at the pump type of system, gas is available 24/7/365. Some small towns, however, still have the old analog pump and you must go inside to pay. Those are usually closed. The one exception we have found was in Utah. Even in Salt Lake City, we spent 1/2 hour on a Christmas that fell on a sunday looking for a station that was open and selling gas. They opened at 10AM, so we had to wait a while.
The bigger problem you will have is places to eat. Many fast-food places are closed on Christmas. Fancier places and Dennys are all that we have found to be open.
Have fun.

RE: I-70, Denver to Baltimore

Thanks for the tips. I will probably do the I-79/I-68 on the way back. Used to do that route to DC all the time before it was an interstate because I don't like the PA turnpike. On the way there, however, we will be stopping in Pittsburgh, so that makes the turnpike the only logical way time-wise. Still have about 20 lbs of Aiellos Pizza around my middle from my college years there in Pittsburgh 20 years ago and I need to add to it. :)

RE: Nissan dealer advertising new Versa with each new Titan?

A dealer in Denver was offering a Versa on a loaded full price Titan earlier this summer. Guess that tells you how much fluff there is in the price or how much fear there is in having a full size truck on their lot. At least you would average about 25mpg.

I-70, Denver to Baltimore

We will be traveling from Denver to Baltimore on I-70 in mid October. Are there any large construction project or terrible sections of roads that we should be aware of?
Thanks.

RE: What to do with septic tank smell during storage?

Sometimes it takes an extra flush to make sure that everything is out for winter. I also put about 1 gallon of antifreeze in each tank and a blue tank treatment. No problems with odor.

RE: 6V Golf cart battery suggestions

I've got those awesome Sam's club energizers and charge them with my WFCO charger/converter that came with the trailer. Amazing compared to the two 12V that came with the trailer. Haven't gone below 3 lights yet all summer and it always charges full within the 24-36 hrs I park in front of my house before we leave.

RE: Progressive insurance is no good

When we go away, even for a weekend, we turn all the water off to our house, except for the sprinkler in the summer. I also call to make sure the answering machine still works. If it isn't, we may not have electric and that could lead to frozen pipes as well. I have lived in my home since 1994 and have had 2 small plumbing leaks during that time. That is 2 days out of over 5000. Pretty small chance of that happening. However, should that have happened on a week when we were away, that would be a lot of water and a lot of damage. I also have someone check by the home on a regular basis to make sure nothing has happened to it. We stop by our trailer in the storage lot every other week just to make sure things are ok. While it may seem that because the branch made a hole it should equal a completely covered event and that 2 months should be an expected length of time to be away and therefore should have no relevence to the coverage, that implies that time should never be a factor in coverage. What if 5 years went by and the wood structure rotted and then snow loading collapsed the entire strucure. Would the owner be entitled to a new trailer? If someone parked it on the side of their home, they would have noticed it in the first day or so, put a tarp on it, dried up any pooling water and called the insurance company. Why is it that ones choice to put ones trailer far away from ones house for ones convenience should add additional risk to the insurance company. How many people would be upset if insurance companies charged $300 extra per year to people who couldn't store their trailer on the side of their home? Maybe everyone should pay higher premiums so that insurance will cover anything at anytime no matter where or when or how it occured. I do not and have never worked for an insurance company, nor have I ever had a claim on my policy. I just believe that if you buy something, you need to take care of it. Insurance is for unforseen and accidental events. That a branch could fall off a tree in a forest isn't too unforseen and therefore precautions should be taken to mitigate the potential for damage should it occur. Maybe the government should have some role in damage prevention and protection so that citizens aren't bothered by such responsibility. I'm sure there is a politician somewhere who would support having government employees come to peoples homes on a regular basis to make sure things are just so.
That's it. DW just took my soap box and put it away.

RE: Any good servicing dealers in the Denver-Colorado Spgs area?

Do you mean RV service? I have only had my unit in once in 3 seasons and that was to Nolan's RV for a couple warranty items and brake/bearing work. They took one month, didn't finish the job, the parts they ordered didn't even come in by the following spring. They also tried to charge me for some of the warranty items. I would steer clear of them.

RE: New York to LA!

Stop in and see the Telluride/Ouray/Silverton/Durango part of Colorado. Our family thinks it is the best part of the state. Can be seen on the way to/from the Grand Canyon. Check into the Durango to Silverton narrow gauge railroad. A little pricey and you need to make reservations many months in advance, but it is a fantastic voyage in a 100+ year old coal-burning train through some magnificent canyons. Mesa Verde is also right there and you can go on tours through the Anasazi cliff dwellings.
Have fun!

RE: outback loft

Knowing how my kids jump on the sofas and throw each other around, I'm sure it wouldn't be too long before a kid went through the screen and was airborne. There are no rails up there, only the screen and fabric to keep the unattended kid in. We also camp mostly in the national forest and the trees are usually only trimmed up around 10 feet or so. Probably couldn't have opened up the top in over half of the sites we stayed in this year.

RE: Fiberglass "blister"

We had put money down on a trailer and after signing, we went back out and saw the blister ( sun was going down and had a better angle for seeing the blister ). Told the salesman who said it was no big deal and they would have it fixed the next day. Called me back and said the manufacturer claimed it wasn't repairable and wanted the trailer back at the factory to replace the entire wall. They said it would take 2 months. They said we could use it all summer and send it back over the winter. We didn't want to have a trailer that was taken apart because we didn't know what that might lead to in the future and we wanted our money back. Didn't want to take a chance that they would claim we caused additional damage over the summer and rendered the warranty void. Salesman called back and said their in-house technician could repair it in house by drilling a hole, injecting glue and patching the hole. Didn't want a patched hole, didn't want a pile of glue behind the bump and worried where else bubbles might pop up on the wall as time went on. Backed out. Lost a couple hundred bucks on the deal. Lesson learned. Bought our Cirrus the next day at another dealer. Like the trailer we have so much better than the one we almost had. I also don't have to worry about what might happen. No, we aren't made of money and the loss of the money hurt, but I'd make the same decision today. Make sure you take your future worries/potential problems into account.

RE: Winter parking in the street (snow areas only)

I have lived in Denver my whole life, so I am familiar with the weather here. I don't park at my house and can't because of ccr's. I do drive by a trailer on Green Mountain, however, when I visit my grandmother. It has been parked on the side of a street off and on for 3 years. It is an aluminum sided unit and is quite dented on the bottom street side and looks like it is in much worse condition than the aluminum sided units I see in the lot where I park mine. I have seen huge piles of ice and snow packed up against it ( remember the snows of 06/07?). There is no way you could get that out if you needed until it melted. Are the dents and scratches from cars, snowplows, ice, kids or a driver who doesn't know how to pull his trailer, I can't say. My parents had an aluminum sided trailer as a kid and kept it on the side of our house. It never got dented in the 5 years we owned it ( well, my dad did manage to push a 1" dia. steel rod through the wall, but that is a long story ), so I don't think it is just that aluminum is more susceptable to damage. I know I wouldn't want to take that risk with my trailer.
